Dating Post Pandemic?

Ever since the pandemic has locked us in our houses and kept us away from our usual paths of denial for example "oh I am not looking for anything serious " or “i dont have time for this ”phase, more and more people were forced to contemplate their decisions this year. Humans by nature are social animals. A lot of people lived a difficult and lonely life during this lockdown and were given a chance to re-evaluate. At least that's what the recent data shows us.

According to the current dating platform's studies, the data shows us the trend that most people are walking away from the hookup culture in the US.

The rules of dating are rapidly changing with technology filling in the gaps of personal meeting and socializing with new terms floating around like Zoomlandering, Fauci-ing and Apocalypsing etc. where Zoomlandering is where the person is more interested in how he/she is looking while being on a video call than the other person they are talking to, Fauci-ing is just a term which determines if the other person is taking the pandemic seriously, Apocalypsing is the term when the person is just trying to date because he/she doesn't want to be alone and fears the end of the world. This makes us wonder how many more filters and thoughts people are putting in before even going out on the first date.

Which is good. Above all it saves time.

The situation is going to pass. We’re all gonna get through it. But what’s not going to change are the behaviours that we’re adopting now by being at home,” said Daniel Ahmadizadeh, CEO of the newly launched dating app, Quarantine Together. “We’re not necessarily solving a coronavirus problem. We’re solving a problem of loneliness that happens to be compounded right now because of coronavirus.”

We have seen a trend where people are now more picky and selective of who they are dating. This pandemic was not all good for relationships. Few of the people were faced with the reality of living with their partner in a confined space. Where they realised that they are not comfortable with a some of the qualities of their partner. Which led them to separate and look for something more. People who got divorced during this pandemic where mostly people who were already struggling in their relationship and being in the lockdown made matters worse.

So are people happy being single?

According to the survey, in Feb 2020 58% of people said that they were looking for a serious relationship and 34% of people said that they are not looking for anything serious. In May the stats show us that 44% of those people were looking for long-term relationships and 11% were not but the significant number i.e 35% of people just wanted new friends.*source Luxy-https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/covid-19-killed-online-dating-app-luxy-sees-shift-towards-networking-301072055.html#

Top White House advisor Dr Anthony Facui thinks that we should never shake hands with anyone ever again. This puts a ding on intimacy during the first date so, goodbye oxytocin. Regardless of what we might think we may actually move closer to people than ever before because of this pandemic.

Match group a dating platform has outperformed its stock. So, people cutting cost on dating platforms was not a correct prediction.

People will be more active and would remain focused in their search after the pandemic.

So if the trend continues more people will make better decisions while choosing the lifestyle, To conclude:-
  • More changes are going to happen in the way we choose our partners.
  • Dating rules have changed and will remain like this even after the pandemic.
  • We will see a rise in people looking for serious long term relationships.
  • A decrease in hookup culture is very likely to be observed.
People crave companionship, if this pandemic has taught us anything is that loneliness can be scary and we now need to move out of our denial zone and should not settle for just having a relationship for the sake of it.

With this thought, I leave the readers with a question, what do you think you are going to change about your life choices post-pandemic? Hope you find this useful and informative. Follow my blog for more Data related quests.

Until next time.

Prophet of The Future .             Prophet is open source software released by Facebook’s Core Data Science team. It is available for download on CRAN and PyPI. Prophet is a procedure for forecasting time series data based on an additive model where non-linear trends are fit with yearly, weekly, and daily seasonality, plus holiday effects. It works best with time series that have strong seasonal effects and several seasons of historical data. Prophet is robust to missing data and shifts in the trend, and typically handles outliers well.       Accurate and fast.       Fully automatic.       Tunable forecasts.       Available in R or Python. Let’s explore this with an example.   Here we are using Air Passenger dataset and our jupyter workbook. Future of Real Estate in the US after the Pandemic . Real Estate has always been a fascinating investment topic to be debated by the pandits. Is the time " NOW " or " NEVER " to invest in real estate after so many obstacles have shaken our faiths in it. Well, the United States of America's real estate market doest think so. In fact, the market appears to be steady and ever raising.  A study by CoreInsights has shown that the market for real estate has increased in the top 10 states  namely  California, Hawaii, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Massachusetts & Arizona. To give an example, in Nevada, house prices have more than doubled since 2010 (105.84%), while in Connecticut, the average price has increased by just 1.12% over the same period.   So then, if house prices continue to increase at this rate over the next ten years, how would the average house price look across the nation?  Then when we look at how 2030 prices could look in Ame...
COVID-19 - B e a u t y    a t    a    P r i c e    The global beauty industry (comprising skin care, color cosmetics, hair care, fragrances, and personal care) has been shocked by the COVID-19 crisis. First-quarter sales have been weak, and there have been widespread store closures. But the industry has quickly adapted to the change by changing its product line to hand sanitizers and house cleaning products also offering free beauty services to front line workers to gain positive brand positioning. The global beauty industry generated $50 billion in sale a year and accounted to millions of jobs, directly and indirectly giving people in these tough times financial capabilities. Let’s be clear we are talking about an industry which even recession couldn’t kick to the ground. In 2008 financial crises, the spending fell slightly but it was regained by 2010.
