Dating Post Pandemic?
According to the current dating platform's studies, the data shows us the trend that most people are walking away from the hookup culture in the US.
The rules of dating are rapidly changing with technology filling in the gaps of personal meeting and socializing with new terms floating around like Zoomlandering, Fauci-ing and Apocalypsing etc. where Zoomlandering is where the person is more interested in how he/she is looking while being on a video call than the other person they are talking to, Fauci-ing is just a term which determines if the other person is taking the pandemic seriously, Apocalypsing is the term when the person is just trying to date because he/she doesn't want to be alone and fears the end of the world. This makes us wonder how many more filters and thoughts people are putting in before even going out on the first date.
Which is good. Above all it saves time.
The situation is going to pass. We’re all gonna get through it. But what’s not going to change are the behaviours that we’re adopting now by being at home,” said Daniel Ahmadizadeh, CEO of the newly launched dating app, Quarantine Together. “We’re not necessarily solving a coronavirus problem. We’re solving a problem of loneliness that happens to be compounded right now because of coronavirus.”
We have seen a trend where people are now more picky and selective of who they are dating. This pandemic was not all good for relationships. Few of the people were faced with the reality of living with their partner in a confined space. Where they realised that they are not comfortable with a some of the qualities of their partner. Which led them to separate and look for something more. People who got divorced during this pandemic where mostly people who were already struggling in their relationship and being in the lockdown made matters worse.
So are people happy being single?
According to the survey, in Feb 2020 58% of people said that they were looking for a serious relationship and 34% of people said that they are not looking for anything serious. In May the stats show us that 44% of those people were looking for long-term relationships and 11% were not but the significant number i.e 35% of people just wanted new friends.*source Luxy-https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/covid-19-killed-online-dating-app-luxy-sees-shift-towards-networking-301072055.html#
Top White House advisor Dr Anthony Facui thinks that we should never shake hands with anyone ever again. This puts a ding on intimacy during the first date so, goodbye oxytocin. Regardless of what we might think we may actually move closer to people than ever before because of this pandemic.
Match group a dating platform has outperformed its stock. So, people cutting cost on dating platforms was not a correct prediction.

- More changes are going to happen in the way we choose our partners.
- Dating rules have changed and will remain like this even after the pandemic.
- We will see a rise in people looking for serious long term relationships.
- A decrease in hookup culture is very likely to be observed.
